RHYS MILLEN RACING GENESIS COUPE
Rhys Millen Racing (RMR), one of the industry’s most respected tuners,
designed the “Art of Speed” Genesis Coupe 2.0T with the visual impact to
turn heads at the 2008 SEMA Show and the performance necessary to put the
driver in the winner’s circle the following weekend.
The RMR Genesis Coupe is powered by a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder
engine enhanced by a Turbonetics turbocharger, wastegate and blow-off valve
to provide extra horsepower and torque. It is equipped with a heavy-duty
HKS sequential transmission and a KW coilover suspension to put that
additional power to the ground.
The RMR Genesis Coupe sports a silver and blue paint scheme and a RMR
dry carbon fiber wide body kit, functional hood scoop and an APR GTC-500
carbon-fiber wing. RMR added SSR Type-F competition lightweight wheels and
Bridgestone Potenza racing slicks, which partner well with the race-ready
factory Brembo brake system. Inside, the vehicle interior has transformed
into a racing cockpit with a Sparco steering wheel and seat, eight-point
roll cage and a RMR carbon fiber dash.
STREET CONCEPTS GENESIS COUPE
A long-time Hyundai tuner, Shawn Williams from Street Concepts
delivered a modified Genesis Coupe outfitted with a black camouflage,
Stealth Fighter-inspired paint design that compliments its aggressive
styling. The exterior also features a custom grille design, tinted
taillights and an APR rear wing.
The Street Concepts Genesis Coupe showcases Volk 19-inch racing wheels,
Pirelli performance tires, a modified suspension and Brembo brakes. A
Magnaflow cat-back exhaust and K&N cold air intake system enhance the
performance of the 3.8-liter V6 engine. Interior modifications include a
custom Infinity audio system, Recaro Sportster Topline seats and black
suede accents designed to fit the Stealth Fighter theme.

original leather to maintain the OE look and feel, while the seats contain
suede accents.
Clean, purposeful exterior modifications compliment the high-tech
interior. Changes include 22-inch custom-made, staggered fitment MHT
three-piece wheels, Pirelli tires, custom-molded front body kit and side
skirts, lowered suspension and smoked headlights. Custom dual-tip stacked
exhausts and a custom-molded rear bumper accentuate the metallic silver and
blue paint job.
DUB MAGAZINE GENESIS SEDAN
DUB magazine took two Hyundai Genesis sedans to the next level by
enhancing their appearance with a DUB Edition makeover — one in white, the
other in black. Upgrades include color-matched exterior pieces, custom
lowering kits, an elaborate audio and video system, DUB emblems and tinted

* Genesis Coupe production model arrives in spring of 2009
Hyundai released additional engineering and feature information for the all-new 2010 Genesis
Coupe today. The Genesis Coupe, and its rear-wheel drive platform-mate the Genesis sedan will make their Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show debuts next week.
“One of the program targets for the Genesis engineering team was world-class weight efficiency,” said John Krafcik, vice president, Product Development and Strategic Planning, Hyundai Motor America. “When you look at the size and content of both Genesis models, you’ll find we lead all our competitors in weight efficiency. We also target leadership in power-to-weight ratio. We think that’s just smart strategy in today’s
world. It pays huge dividends in both performance and fuel economy, and that’s especially important in the segments in which these cars compete.”

Both Genesis Coupe and sedan are rich in ultra-high-strength steel, leading to world-class body rigidity. The Genesis sedan is 10-12 percent stiffer in torsion than Lexus and Mercedes-Benz competitors, yet it is
lighter than these benchmark sedans, and offers more interior room. At just 3,303 pounds, the Genesis Coupe 2.0T is hundreds of pounds lighter than all of its IRS-equipped rear-wheel-drive competitors, with body-bending rigidity 24 percent higher than BMW E46 M3.
Vehicle Length Curb Weight Horsepower Power-to-weight
(lbs.) ratio
Genesis Coupe 3.8 182.3 3402 310 (est.) 11.0
BMW 335i 181.1 3571 300 11.9
Infiniti G37 183.1 3616 330 11.0
Camaro LS 190.4 3780 300 (est.) 12.6
Challenger 197.7 3819 250 15.3
This focus on weight efficiency pays dividends across the board. The Genesis sedan owes its ability to deliver both strong performance (0-60 mph in just 5.7 seconds) and excellent fuel economy (25 mpg EPA highway rating) in great part due to its impressive weight efficiency. Similarly, the Genesis Coupe 2.0T sets a new benchmark for front-engine, rear-wheel-drive gasoline fuel efficiency with a remarkable 30 mpg estimated EPA highway rating, because of its weight-efficient platform and its efficient 2.0-liter, low-pressure, turbocharged four-cylinder engine.
“While some turbochargers sacrifice smooth drivability with high operating boost pressures in the 20 psi range, Genesis Coupe uses a refined, low-boost calibration for smoothness and efficiency,” said Derek
Joyce, Genesis Coupe product manager. “We could have opted solely for big performance numbers, but our focus for the 2.0T was a more balanced package.”
Genesis Coupe product highlights
With the start of U.S. market production now just a few months away, Hyundai Motor America is releasing model configuration and color choices for the 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe.
“Genesis sedan has set a new benchmark for the $35,000-$40,000 premium sedan, and we think Genesis Coupe will do the same in the sport coupe segment,” Krafcik said. “From our 30-mpg 2.0T with its low-pressure intercooled 4-cylinder turbo, to the 3.8 Track model with an estimated 310-hp and Brembo braking system, Genesis Coupe offers a wide range of powertrain and performance choices for driving enthusiasts of all stripes.”

The Hyundai brand continues to grow as its value rose by nine percent to $4.8 billion in the
2008 Top 100 Global Brands study jointly conducted by Interbrand, a leading consultancy in branding, and BusinessWeek.
Since debuting in 2005 on the annual Best Global Brands list, Hyundai has registered steady annual growth in its global brand value. In the latest study, Hyundai ranked eighth among global automakers, ahead of several prominent competitor brands including Porsche, Lexus and Nissan. By region, Hyundai saw its largest gains in brand value in India, Korea and emerging markets like Russia and Brazil.
Korea’s leading automaker has grown in prominence on the global stage thanks to steady improvements in the quality and design of its vehicles, and rapid globalization efforts that have provided Hyundai with a
manufacturing foothold in the key emerging markets of India and China.
“Our investment into continuous quality improvement has provided us with the momentum we need to grow the Hyundai brand globally,” said Vice Chairman and CEO Dong-Jin Kim.
Perceptions of the Hyundai brand among new car buyers have been transformed as a result of dramatic improvements in the quality and styling of Hyundai vehicles. This, in turn, has fuelled a steady increase in sales and confidence in the brand among both customers and dealers.
Brand management is a top priority at Hyundai. Brand management considerations influence decision-making at all levels of the organization, from styling and marketing to communications, retail and after-sales service.

Hyundai Motor America announced that HKS USA, Inc. will create a high-performance Genesis
Hyundai Motor America announced that HKS USA, Inc. will create a high-performance Genesis Coupe 2.0t for the 2008 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show.
The all-new, rear-wheel drive Hyundai model will make its SEMA debut at the Las Vegas Convention Center Nov. 4 - Nov. 7, 2008. HKS, the leading manufacturer of premium performance parts, is the second company to join Hyundai for this year’s SEMA show.
“Genesis Coupe has the basic DNA that HKS looks for — an excellent chassis, rear-wheel drive, aggressive styling and a new generation turbo-charged engine. These attributes provide the opportunity for HKS to
maximize the Genesis Coupe driving performance capabilities for the serious driving enthusiast,” said Rick Lafferty, president, HKS USA, Inc. “HKS is allocating R&D, engineering and prototyping resources to lay the groundwork for HKS-brand Genesis Coupe performance parts. We are looking forward to working with Hyundai to realize the full performance potential of the Genesis Coupe.”
The HKS plan for the Genesis Coupe includes a HKS GT Turbo upgrade to maximize horsepower and torque, HKS engine internals, HKS limited-edition turbo exhaust system, HKS Super Mega Flow Intake System, HKS Engine Management and HKS Hipermax III fully-adjustable suspension.
“We’ve designed Genesis Coupe from the start to be tuner-friendly,” said John Krafcik, vice president, Product Development and Strategic Planning, Hyundai Motor America. “Partnering with an industry leader like HKS is a terrific way for us to stretch the performance envelope of Genesis Coupe.”
The HKS Genesis Coupe will also showcase functional ground effects designed by Ken Style, HKS Time-Attack cars’ aerodynamic partner. The interior will emphasize driver comfort and control with HKS electronics including CAMP2 that monitors up to 24 data signals from the Genesis OBD2 and programmable calculations for fuel costs, average fuel consumption and fuel efficiency in real time.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) awarded five-star crash test ratings, the highest government rankings under the agency’s New Car Assessment Program, to the all-new 2009 Hyundai Genesis for both frontal and side-impact crash tests.
“Genesis was engineered with a lightweight but strong body shell, featuring ultra-high tensile steel, laser welding, and advanced adhesive bonding,” said John Krafcik, vice president of Strategic Planning and Product Development, Hyundai Motor America. “Add eight airbags and electronic active head restraints and you can see the focus we placed on designing Genesis for occupant safety. These five-star results are just one indication of the dedication Hyundai engineers place on safety.”
Maintaining Hyundai’s emphasis on delivering leading safety technology, Genesis boasts world-class active and passive safety features that both prevent accidents and maximize the well-being of its occupants in the event of a collision. The Genesis continues the Hyundai tradition of standardizing key life-saving safety technology, with features such as Electronic Stability Control (ESC), eight airbags and electronic active head restraints.
ESC compares the driver’s intended course with the vehicle’s actual response. It then brakes individual front or rear wheels and/or reduces engine power as needed in certain driving circumstances to help correct understeer or oversteer.
Genesis’ eight airbags include advanced dual front airbags, front and rear seat-mounted side-impact airbags, and roof-mounted side curtain airbags for both front and rear outboard seat occupants.
Hyundai is the first popular brand to offer electronic active front head restraints, a standard feature on the 2009 Genesis, which are an improvement over mechanically-based active head restraint systems. Until now, electronic active head restraints could only be found on select Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Lexus models. Active front head restraints have been proven by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety to help prevent whiplash.
Genesis is brought to a halt by large four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes with Brake Assist and Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD). The V6 models feature 12.6-inch front rotors with single-piston floating calipers, while the V8 models feature 13-inch front rotors with four-piston calipers. All models are equipped with 12.4-inch rear rotors.
The 2009 Hyundai Sonata was named an “Interior of the Year” award winner in the category of “Best Redesign” at the annual “Auto Interior of the Year Awards” conducted by Ward’s AutoWorld magazine.
“This award is particularly gratifying for our team,” said Dan Vivian, director of Design Engineering. “We started with a world-class car, listened to customer feedback telling us they wanted an improved interior,
and went to work to make the 2009 Hyundai Sonata stand up and stand out against every other car in its class.”
The 2009 Hyundai Sonata redesign was led by the team at Hyundai’s America Technical Center Inc. (HATCI) in Superior Township, Mich. HATCI’s role is to design, develop and test Hyundai products sold in North America.
The 2009 Sonata was the first Hyundai product program led by the team in North America. The Sonata is built at Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama, near Montgomery.
“Talk about a comeback!” Ward’s AutoWorld Editor-in-Chief Drew Winter writes on his Sonata scoresheet. “Hyundai has gone from mediocre to best-in-class with Sonata.”
Ward’s editors also noted the new Sonata has everything a buyer wants in this daily-driver sector: a spacious back seat and trunk, good ergonomics, snug seats, premium-looking gauges, a sleek sense of style and quality materials. The Sonata cabin is warm and inviting — like comfort food at the end of a hard day — and manages to raise Hyundai’s brand image as a benchmark for interior design.
Ward’s editors served as judges for the competition, evaluating 36 vehicles in March and April. The pool consisted of completely new vehicles or existing models that received significant interior redesigns for ‘08.
Editors submitted score sheets ranking the materials selected, ergonomics, safety, value, comfort, fit-and-finish and design harmony for each vehicle evaluated. Points also were awarded based on a driver’s
ability to quickly access vital information, such as navigation routes, diagnostic data and fuel economy.
NEW, WELL-CRAFTED INTERIOR STILL A “CLASS ABOVE”
The focus of the redesign of the 2009 Sonata was on the interior where Hyundai’s designers re-crafted the cabin area to create an upscale ambiance for the driver and passengers. Eyes are drawn to clean and sophisticated flow-through center console and instrument panel design, which borrows design cues and rich materials from the premium Hyundai Veracruz.
“We were inspired by the beautiful forms of the interior in the Veracruz and challenged to deliver comparable design execution in the mainstream Sonata,” said Chris Zarlenga, who heads Hyundai’s design studio in Michigan. “Great design does not have to cost a great deal of money to the company or the customer. This new Sonata proves that point.”
Sonata is classified by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Large Car, truly a “class above” its competitors, including Toyota Camry, Nissan Altima, Ford Fusion and Chevrolet Malibu (all are categorized as mid-size cars). Even in trunk room, Sonata shines. Sonata’s 16.3 cubic feet of trunk space give it an 8 percent advantage over the Toyota Camry, and a 16 percent advantage over Honda Accord.
Music lovers will welcome the 2009 Sonata’s inclusion of standard auxiliary input jacks (3.5 mm mini-jack and USB input) to accommodate and charge audio devices such as iPods(R). When an iPod or flash drive is connected through the USB port, which is located in the center storage compartment, not only does it play music through the vehicle’s six-speaker audio system, but it charges the device and allows the driver to access tracks with the steering wheel audio controls. This system also allows both driver and passengers to easily view song/artist/title information and control the music from the audio head unit rather than only the iPod itself.
Among the other refinements are the addition of dual-zone climate controls for the driver and front-seat passenger, and two-stage front seat warmers. A new factory-installed touch screen navigation system with a state-of-the-art voice recognition interface is now available as well. This interface allows the driver to select a destination, and change audio selections, by voice command without taking hands off the wheel or eyes off the road.
Hyundai engineers also listened to customer feedback on seat comfort and were able to redesign the front seat angles and cushion length to improve comfort.
More contrast has been added to the Camel and Gray interiors, and for the first time ever, Cocoa Brown is available. The front cupholders are also upgraded for more capacity and holding power. Hyundai’s signature blue backlighting for interior gauges, switches and buttons highlights the vehicle’s modern interior design.
